LastResort Chat

iMessage-style immersive chat — a drop-in replacement for the stock chat resource

Chat that feels like part of the game

The default FiveM chat is a text log in the corner. LastResort Chat is a full replacement: live character portraits, typing indicators, voice activity, world speech bubbles and a channel rail, in one designed panel.

It keeps compatibility with the default chat resource API, so the framework scripts and third-party resources already talking to stock chat keep working without edits.

Current version: v1.11.2 · ESX / QBCore / QBox / Standalone.

Speech that respects distance

  • Server-routed proximity speech with separate ranges for say, whisper, low and shout — routed server-side, so nobody can read what they should not hear.
  • Same-vehicle passengers always hear normal IC speech, regardless of range.
  • Proximity history is not replayed when a player joins or switches channels, so walking up to a conversation does not hand you a transcript of it.
  • /me and /do as 3D world bubbles with occlusion — they disappear behind walls instead of bleeding through them. /do can be anchored to the position where it was written.

911 calls as incident cards

An emergency call is not a line of text that scrolls away. It arrives as an incident card for on-duty responders, who can respond, acknowledge, set a GPS waypoint or drop a temporary blip — and the card updates for everyone as the incident changes.

The panel

  • Player headshot avatars, typing indicators and voice activity rendered around the avatar.
  • A channel rail covering Local OOC, Global OOC, Radio, Chirp, Adverts, Darknet, 911, Announcements and private threads, alongside the IC proximity channels.
  • Two message styles — the iMessage-like version with avatars and bubbles, or a tighter classic RP layout (Name: message). Every player can pick their own.
  • Optional mouse-look while chat is open — hold RMB, or leave the camera free the whole time. Off by default.
  • Emoji-triggered emotes — an emoji-only IC message can play a matching character animation. Paired ones like a handshake, hug or high-five require the closest player to accept first.
  • Edit and unsend your own recent messages for about two minutes, to fix typos in OOC, PMs and similar channels. IC messages and 911 calls are permanent and cannot be changed after the fact.

Staff tools

  • /report — player reports as tracked threads, with an explicit close.
  • Mutes — applied and lifted from chat, with every online staff member notified.
  • Held MOTD — the welcome message waits until the loading screen actually drops, so players read it instead of it ageing out behind a closed chat.
  • Small extras that servers always end up wanting: /roll, /coin and /photo.

Performance

  • Idle: 0.00–0.02 ms client-side
  • Panel open with world bubbles rendering: 0.04–0.12 ms, depending on how many players and bubbles are around you

See it before you wire it in

  • /lrcdemo — puts the whole channel rail up and walks through every message type, so you can check the feature you are buying it for in one command.
  • /lrcshowcase — a scripted story cut, chapter by chapter, built to be recorded. Individual chapters run on their own, so you do not have to restart the whole story to re-record twenty seconds of it.

Requirements & languages

  • Frameworks: ESX / QBCore (QBUS) / QBox / Standalone.
  • Compatibility: implements the default chat resource API — existing scripts that use stock chat keep working. Stop the stock chat resource before starting this one.
  • Languages: English, German, Spanish, French, Hungarian and Brazilian Portuguese included.
  • Code: fully open source — no escrow, no obfuscation.

Design note & disclaimer

The visual direction of this resource is inspired by the aesthetic that the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI has brought back into focus — sun-bleached Florida palettes, Miami neon after dark, and a clean, minimal, glass-and-light interface language.

To be explicit about what that does and does not mean: this is not a recreation of the actual GTA VI interface. No GTA 6 assets, textures, fonts, UI layouts, code or leaked material are used anywhere in this resource — every element is drawn from scratch in HTML, CSS and Canvas. Nobody outside Rockstar Games has seen the real GTA VI HUD, and this resource does not claim to be it. What it captures is a mood, not a design.
